Lee Ji-sook, CEO of Bayer CropScience Korea, a member company of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI), recently conducted an interview with The Korea Economic Daily (Hankyang ESG). During the interview, CEO Lee presented 'regenerative agriculture' as a core solution to addressing the food security crisis and climate change.
Currently, Bayer is drawing significant attention for its integrated solutions that combine crop protection, seeds, and digital technology. The company is leading an industry paradigm shift through a strategy that merges regenerative agriculture with digital innovation. Revealing Bayer's vision to "expand regenerative agriculture to over 400 million acres worldwide," Lee emphasized a strategic shift in research and development (R&D) focused on biological products and precision agriculture to restore soil health while boosting productivity. Furthermore, she expressed her ambition to foster South Korea as a key production and supply hub for Asia, thereby leading the global agricultural transition.
In particular, Lee pointed to the integration of digital technologies—such as smart farming, automation, and drone pest control—as the solution for Korean agriculture, which currently faces an aging workforce and climate change. As part of the partnerships and organizational innovation required to achieve this, Bayer is evolving its collaboration with FarmHannong, a domestic Korean company, into open innovation-based joint R&D, thereby further strengthening the capabilities of the local agricultural ecosystem.
