In a recent interview with The Asia Business Daily, Christoph Nowak, German Chairperson of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) and Managing Director of Dachser Korea, shared his insights on the importance of technological cooperation between South Korea and Germany in the AI era, as well as the investment environment.
Chairperson Nowak emphasized that with the expansion of AI infrastructure, South Korea's semiconductor and manufacturing technologies can combine with Germany's power semiconductors and energy management technologies to create significant synergy. He also highlighted that South Korea's socio-political stability acts as an attractive geopolitical advantage for German companies. In particular, he explained that the upcoming Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK 2026), to be held in Seoul next month, will serve as a turning point to flesh out practical cooperation projects between the two countries across technology, investment, and supply chains. Furthermore, noting that predictability is more important than the level of regulation itself in corporate activities, he suggested that sufficient prior consultation and a grace period are necessary when introducing new regulations.
This interview highlights that in the face of the AI era, the two countries will go beyond traditional supplier-customer relationships to strengthen joint development and partnerships, expanding the horizon of economic cooperation catalyzed by APK 2026.
