At the Korea–German Green Steel Transition Seminar hosted by KGCCI, Leandro Janke, Senior Chief Technology Analyst Industry at the German climate and energy think tank Agora Industry, highlighted the potential cost savings for Korea through the import of green iron.

 

He emphasized that by importing green iron produced in regions with access to low-cost renewable energy and green hydrogen, Korea can alleviate energy constraints while reducing steel production costs.

 

He further noted that this supply chain model represents a practical solution to simultaneously achieve carbon emission reductions and maintain industrial competitiveness and could become a key strategic option in the ongoing restructuring of the global steel supply chain.
