Marie Antonia von Schönburg, President and CEO of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI), highlighted that German companies are increasingly viewing South Korea not just as a consumer market, but as a strategic hub for innovation, advanced manufacturing, and Asian supply chain diversification.
She emphasized a strong industrial synergy between the two nations by pairing Germany’s expertise in precision engineering, automation, and industrial software with Korea’s strengths in semiconductors, batteries, and life sciences. While German firms remain engaged in China, they are actively building supply chain resilience through trusted partners like Korea, highlighted by recent major investments from Merck and Sartorius.
Looking ahead to the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK 2026) in Seoul, which will feature German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and global executives, she pointed to immense potential in industrial AI, smart mobility, and renewable energy. She also called on Korean policymakers to improve regulatory predictability, consistency, and dialogue to foster long-term investment and vocational talent development.
