In an interview with Asia Business Daily on May 21st, Georg Schmidt, the German Ambassador to South Korea, emphasized that South Korea and Germany must defend a rules-based multilateral trading system amid the global economic security crisis.

In an interview with Asia Business Daily on May 21st, Georg Schmidt, the German Ambassador to South Korea, emphasized that South Korea and Germany must defend a rules-based multilateral trading system amid the global economic security crisis.

 

During the interview, Ambassador Schmidt stated, "South Korea and Germany are among the nations that have benefited the most from open markets and a rules-based multilateral trading system." Regarding the recent trend toward protectionism, he added, "Maintaining a rules-based multilateral trading order is both a heavy responsibility and a great opportunity for our two countries."

 

Furthermore, Ambassador Schmidt mentioned the "Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK)" to be held in Seoul this October, noting that "the entire German business community is paying close attention to it." The ambassador also highlighted that, along with partnerships in hydrogen and renewable energy, companies from both nations are strengthening their value chains based on long-standing trust in the fields of science and technology.
