Interview: EU's Green Regulations Drive 'Reasonable' Demand amid Global Decarbonization

The EU's green regulations are "reasonable and necessary" for the decarbonization trend and offer South Korea a chance to deepen economic ties with the bloc, said Dr. Martin Henkelmann, President & CEO of KGCCI, in the latest interview with Yonhap News.

Dr. Henkelmann also called for the renegotiation process for the Korea-EU free trade agreement (FTA) to reflect changes in the market landscape.

The recently proposed Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) calls for at least 40 percent of the critical minerals the EU needs each year to be processed within the region by 2030.

He emphasized that the EU regulations are not there to cause difficulties for foreign companies and that the revamps can actually be opportunities for South Korea. Read the full interview from Yonhap News or The Korea Times:
