South Korea and Germany are marking a significant milestone this year as they celebrate 140 years of diplomatic ties. The two nations have a rich history of collaboration, with Germany extending medical aid to South Korea during the Korean War and thousands of Koreans working in Germany in the 1960s.

Today, the two countries continue to strengthen their relationship, with Germany being South Korea's largest trading partner in the EU, while South Korea is Germany's third-largest trading partner in Asia. To commemorate this important occasion, a kick-off event was held at Signiel Seoul on April 4, where the German community in South Korea came together to celebrate.

At the event, the German and South Korean ambassadors expressed their excitement for future bilateral ties, particularly in technology and climate protection, with a focus on emerging critical technologies. Both sides highlighted the shared values of freedom, democracy, and a rules-based international order that unite the two nations.

Holger Gerrmann, German chairperson of KGCCI / CEO of Porsche Korea, emphasized the significance of maintaining a free market to strengthen economies. He expressed his hopes for another 140 years of fruitful cooperation between Germany and South Korea, stressing that the positive example set by their bilateral ties could influence the rest of the world.
