Hyun-Nam Park, Managing Director of Deutsche Bank Reelected as Korean Chairperson

(Seoul, June 17, 2023) The Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI, President & CEO Martin Henkelmann) held the 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 15, 2023, at Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul.

KGCCI has reelected Ms. Hyun-Nam Park, Managing Director and Branch Manager of Deutsche Bank AG Seoul Branch as its Korean Chairperson. When elected for the first time in 2021, she was the first woman chairperson to fill this role. Ms. Park is one of the leading figures in the financial industry and has a career spanning over 30 years. In 2013, she became the first female CEO of a foreign investment bank. Additionally, she has served as a financial supervisor advisory member at the Financial Supervisory Service, a foreign affairs advisory member for the National Assembly, a steering committee member for promoting financial centers at the Financial Services Commission, and the Vice Chairman of the Association of Foreign Banks in Korea.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Park said “This year marks the 140th anniversary of Korean and German diplomatic relations, a significant milestone. Over the past 140 years, both countries have seen remarkable economic development, with KGCCI playing a vital role in promoting economic exchange. We will collaborate across sectors to enhance the business environment and strengthen the friendly relationship between Korea and Germany. We anticipate the chamber's crucial role in shaping a successful history of 200 and 300 years of bilateral relations.”

A chairperson serves in the function for two years. Ms. Park will once again lead KGCCI’s Board of Directors together with German Chairperson Mr. Holger Gerrmann, CEO of Porsche Korea.

In addition, new Board Members have joined the KGCCI Board: Mr. Daniel (Il-Seung) Jun, Managing Director of WILO Pumps Ltd., Mr. Martin Kueppers, CEO of Continental Automotive Korea Ltd. and Dr. Dschun Song, Managing Director of BASF Company Ltd.

Re-elected board members are Mr. Alex Drljaca, CEO of Robert Bosch Korea Ltd., Mr. Stefan Ernst, COO of ZABEL + Partners architects Ltd., Dr. WooKyu Kim, Managing Director & Representative Director of Merck Korea and Mr. Jung-Wook Seo, CEO of TÜV SÜD Korea Ltd.

The Board is completed by Mr. HaJoong Chung President & CEO of Siemens Ltd. Seoul, Mr. Stefan Spreu General Manager/Representative Director of ElringKlinger Korea, Ms. JiSook Lee, CFO of Bayer Korea, Mr. Ulf Albinsson

Dr. Martin Henkelmann stated “Ms. Park has done an outstanding work to strengthen the German-Korean business relations, to advocate for closer economic ties of our two countries and to enhance the voice of KGCCI. Under her continued leadership and with the new board members, KGCCI will work closely with our partners in Korea and Germany to foster even stronger economic cooperation and create a positive business environment in these globally challenging times.”

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on improving tax administration efficiency, reducing administrative burdens for compliant companies, expanding the use of digital and English-language documentation during tax audits, and strengthening tax support measures for foreign-invested companies in the fields of R&D, sustainability, and future-oriented industries.
