Long-term Energy Strategies - Opportunities and Challenges for Phasing out Coal and Phasing in Renewables

As industry-based economies Korea and Germany face similar challenges when it comes to shaping their energy system’s future. Both countries aim to significantly reduce their carbon emissions by increasing the usage of renewable energy and energy efficiency while phasing out the use of nuclear energy and reducing the reliance on fossil fuels.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, KGCCI would like to invite you to join a Fireplace Talk on the topic of „Long-term Energy Strategies - Opportunities and Challenges for Phasing out Coal and Phasing in Renewables“. The luncheon discussion provides experts a platform for exchanging on long-term strategies for achieving the energy transition in both countries. Thereby, a focus will be on the process, results and effects of the coal commission of the German Federal Government, which was working from June 2018 to January 2019. The coal phase-out path, the proposed implementation mechanisms and an overview of accompanying measures for the affected regions and employees will be presented. Furthermore the challenges from and the ramp-up program for alternative power generation in Germany and in Korea will be discussed.
