The Big Passion

The St. Matthew passion is widely acknowledged as one of the grandest pieces of music known to man. J.S. Bach wrote the piece about the last days of Christ to be performed in the week before Easter. Both in duration as in musical apparatus, it is a work of vast proportions: two choirs, two orchestras and six soloists will enter the stage as well as a full scale boys choir. The children’s choir of the Beomeo Cathedral (Daegu) will join the ensemble for the concerts in Daegu and Busan. Unique for the Dudok Ensemble is its approach of this Baroque highlight; the players and singers specialize in authentic eighteen century performance practice, which gives a special transparent feel to the interpretation.
