Interview: "What Robert Habeck is Looking for in South Korea"

Robert Habeck, German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy is visiting South Korea to explore economic cooperation measures aimed at reducing dependence on China. Habeck emphasized that South Korea and Germany face similar economic challenges and that both countries rely heavily on exports while seeking to reduce their dependence on China. He also mentioned that geopolitical situations, such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine, are a significant concern for South Korea as well.

"We see an increasing tendency for Korean clients to invite German companies to establish new production facilities in Korea," said Dr. Martin Henkelmann, President and CEO of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI). He added, "Companies want to mention the government subsidies for factory construction in Korea. Although this is not yet reflected statistically, we know from our discussions that this is one reason why German companies are investing more in Korea."

The visit of the German Vice Chancellor to South Korea is a "great signal," said Dr. Martin Henkelmann, President and CEO of the KGCCI. He stated, "It sends a signal that both sides want to expand their cooperation." He also expressed his wish to the minister for the advancement of the free trade agreement with the European Union.
